I didn't think this was possible but the real disappointment of the day isn't Apple Intelligence – it's the "updated" Magic accessories.

They literally just…swapped the Lightning port for USB-C. No multi-device pairing, no design changes, nothing else.

The mouse still has the charging port at the bottom too. 😂

Happens here in Canada w/ Post Merdia [not a typo, they're quite literally shit], as almost all of Canadian media have decided that the leader of the official opposition is justified in not obtaining a security clearance and that the LPC needs a new leader.

MSM DRIVES THE NARRATIVE.

Pollsters asking, on a scale of 1 to 10 how much I hate Trudeau? [I don't]

None ask about how concerned Canadians are about PP NOT having a security clearance.

"Oxfam’s research found that the world’s fifty richest billionaires produce on average more carbon emissions in under three hours than the average British person does in their entire lifetime. On average, they take 184 private jet flights in a single year, spending 425 hours in the air. This produced as much carbon as the average person in the world would in 300 years.""

I wrote a few days ago how the OSI's new "Open Source AI" definition is not open source (and that "open source AI" basically doesn't exist for larger systems) (tante.cc/2024/10/16/does-open-)

Now OSI really wants to keep pushing it and started collecting corporate endorsers for this hollow definition whose only job is to enable "open washing" of proprietary systems. And personally I find it deeply disturbing that @nextcloud, and SUSE Linux - who both should know better - supported this. The fact that Mozilla does is just the next step in their intellectual collapse.

Researchers say an AI-powered transcription tool used in hospitals invents things no one ever said

Instead of dialing down bureaucracy and documentation overhead, we are doubling down with AI generated BS.
Note that standard transcription tools in medical environments like Dragon or even MS Word tool also make mistakes, but don't hallucinate. The user is required to check correctness (when we don't, embarrassing things end up in the notes)

Harris Up +4 In New ABC/Ipsos Poll

Another high quality poll has Harris up four points among likely voters. This is consistent with other high quality polling. The polling averages have been strongly manipulated by biased GOP 'red wave' pollsters. When you discard their results this is where the race has been for weeks. Do not be fooled by the averages. The Harris +3 to +5 lead remains solid.

“Simply do not break a glass, and it will last a thousand years. Smash it, and it will not last an instant. Democracy is like that: fragile, but only if you shatter it.”

“Trust is like that, too, as newspapers know.”

It has fallen to me, the humor columnist, to endorse Harris for president

Matt Mullenweg is making an absolutely spurious legal claim to silence his critics. Because of the fair report privilege, "platforming the claims in the lawsuits" is on rock solid ground. If anyone knows the person behind bullenweg, there are plenty of lawyers who would delight in telling Matt to go piss up a rope. mastodon.social/@mvsde/1133736
